School Council Minutes – January 2018

School Council 2017-2018

ITEMS DISCUSSED

Mrs Saunders and Mrs Kelly welcomed the Councillors to the School Council meeting.  At the first meeting of 2018 we welcomed new Councillors from Reception – Imogen and Ethan! Today the meeting was chaired by Jack.

1.Dictionaries for the Library:

Mrs Resoda purchased 4 new Dictionaries, before Christmas, for the Library with funds raised from the Travelling Book Fair. Thank you to Mrs Resoda for organising this!

2. Soap Dispensers in Junior Girls Toilets:

The dispensers are regularly filled up but let us know when they get low!

3. Damaged Log Roll and Holly Bush:

The damaged log roll has now been removed. A new log roll will be put down in the Spring. Holly bush has also been trimmed.

4.Celebration Day:

At the end of this term it is ‘World Appreciation Day’.  On this day the Children will write letters to the person/people they appreciate! This will be on Friday 9th February 2018.

5.Missing tiles in the Hall:

There is currently just one missing tile in the hall as it was broken late last year.  Mr Tyler will look into replacing it.

6.Have the Football Tables been cleaned?:

Football Tables have not been cleaned yet but it is on Mr Tyler’s list to do this for us.

7.Can we have Outside Board Games?:

This request will be considered for the summer when the weather will hopefully be better!

8.Cookery Club:

Cookery Club is currently running for Year 1.  Mrs Saunders will speak to Mrs Dengate about the possibility of a Cookery Club for Juniors in the future.

9.Dinner Rota:

We now have a dinner rota.

10.Can we have a ‘Naughty Pudding Day’ for School Dinners?

Theme days often have a naughty pudding.  Mrs Saunders and parents would like the School to continue to serve healthy, well balanced meals for school dinners.

11.Jobs Rota:

Perhaps, towards the end of the term, we will have a general ‘tidy up’ day but Mrs Saunders is going to think about a permanent job for each class.

12.Can we have a  Homework Club?:

Yes, this will be organised for Terms 5 and 6!

13.Ideas For Special Days in School?:

Year 1:         No suggestions

Year 2:        Super Hero Day and Onesie Day (Friday 2nd February 2018)

Year 3:        No suggestions

Year 4:        No suggestions

Year 5:        Funky Hair/Hat Day or Funky Shoe Day

Year 6:        Switch Classes Day where teachers share their specialism – e.g. Mr Burns Light Show

Onesie Day is in the Diary for Friday 2nd February 2018

Funky Hat/Hair Day is in the Diary for Friday 18th May 2018.  On this day you may also wear an animal hat if you wish to raise money for the RSPCA as this was a suggestion by Year 6.

Funky Shoe Day is in the Diary for Friday 8th June 2018.

Mr Burns already has a Super Hero Day and Mrs Saunders will speak to the teachers about the switching classes idea.

14.A.O.B:

Year 1

Year 1 would like more playground equipment please.   Mrs Saunders said that she has some and will organise it getting into the playground boxes.

Year 2

Year 2 requested more chalks for the playground please and Mrs Saunders said she will organise this.

Year 3 asked for a Computer Club and a Lego Club;  Computer Club will run in Term 4 and 5 lead by Mr Burns.  Mrs Saunders will ask if any teacher will be willing to lead Lego Club.

Year 4

Year 4 mentioned that the lights in the Junior toilets are flickering and Mrs Saunders said she would have this looked into and fixed. They also requested a litter pick ; this will be tied in with the tidy up day at end of term.

Class 4 also wanted to say a big ‘Thank you’ for the Christmas panto!  Mrs Saunders said that next year the panto will be Aladdin!

Year 5

Year 5 requested that Year 6 produce their Newspaper again like they did last year at the end of the school year. Mrs Saunders said that this would be a lovely idea.

Year 6

Year 6 wanted to know what was happening with the serving hatch design?  Mrs Saunders said that Mrs Styles was in the process of chasing TCS up to find out when this will be done.
Year 6 also requested another colour run in but just with the colour ‘red’ for Red Nose Day.  Mrs Saunders said this could probably be organised.  Red Nose week is 17th to 23rd March 2018.

Finally, Year 6 requested a Board Game Day.  Mrs Saunders thought this would be good to have during Maths Week, week beginning Monday 5th February 2018.

The next School Council Meeting will be held on Monday 26th February 2018 at 10:15am.
